Light Dolls

Light Dolls are portable lamps that transform light into a symbolic and theatrical presence. The two figures - male and female – embody two timeless archetypes: Guys and Dolls (inspired by the iconic 1950 musical), where the man appears bold and muscular, while the woman is defined by slender elegance and grace. Balanced on their heads is a circular tray that casts light onto the surface below while also serving as a place holder for a name card or a small object, turning the piece into both a functional and decorative element. The image of human figures carrying a vase, basket, or tray on their heads – traditionally used to transport food or sacred offerings - runs through history from ancient Egypt to Greek and Roman art, reaching the present day through realist representations and popular iconography. Crafted in porcelain, Light Dolls naturally harmonize with tableware and dining accessories, yet they are equally suited to illuminating any corner of the home or garden, becoming a luminous gift with auspicious meaning. Miniature dolls and human figurines discovered in archaeological sites were not merely toys, but amulets and lucky charms traditionally given to children to protect them from negative influences. The material chosen for Light Dolls is itself a distinctive statement: a premium-quality porcelain, white, luminous, and durable, crafted in the historic district of Jingdezhen, for centuries the center of Chinese imperial porcelain production.
