Throughout his design journey in the field of lighting, Paolo Rizzatto has consistently explored the relationship between light and movement. The conditions that define visual comfort are never fixed: they vary according to the light sources, their position in space, and the reflective, refractive, and absorptive properties of surfaces. They change with space and time, with situations and, above all, from one individual to another — and, for the same person, with the passing of seasons, hours, and states of mind. For this reason, the ability to easily adjust the position and direction of the light source at any moment within the environment becomes essential. Designed for Rotaliana, IBIS integrates the functions of ceiling, wall, and floor lamp into a single system. With a simple gesture of the hand, the LED light source can be moved and oriented smoothly, precisely, and with perfect balance, reaching any point within a typical 5 × 5 × h 3 m space, enabling an almost infinite variety of lighting scenarios. This extraordinary freedom of movement is made possible by a combined system of continuous rotations, achieved through a special electrified rotating joint (slip ring). The lamp consists of three main elements: a shelf (L 80 cm) rotating 360° on the vertical axis; a long tapered arm (L 160 cm), counterbalanced, tilting and rotating 360°; and a head (Ø 12 cm) adjustable 360° on two axes, equipped with interchangeable LED optics and delivering a net luminous flux of 1450 lumens. The elements can be configured with a ceiling canopy, wall mount, or floor base.
